Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing in Medical Surgical, the Assistant Director of Nursing serves as a role model for excellence in Nursing clinical and administrative practice. The Assistant Director of Nursing assist with planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluation of nursing service of the hospital, diagnostic and treatment center or a major unit within the Department of Nursing

• Assumes responsibility of planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating service on the evening or night tours
• Engages front line staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems and processes; manages resources for staff participation in improvement work activities
• Ensures effective facilitation of improvement teams and development of leadership skills to ensure overall effectiveness of the meetings

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
• Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
• A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
